Undergraduate Change of Major Process

Change of Major Overview and Deadlines

The following change of major process for the UMD College of Information (INFO) bachelor’s degree programs is for current UMD undergraduate students only. Incoming freshmen, and incoming transfer students from other institutions, will enter the major through orientation (external link, opens in a new tab).

The Change of Major process for Fall 2026 will open on September 21st and close on December 4th.

You may still submit your request through TerpEngage between now and September 21st. All requests submitted during this time will be reviewed starting September 21st, and any approved changes will take effect for Spring 2027. ELMS invitations will be sent while your request is pending. If you have not received an ELMS invite within five business days after submitting your request, please contact us.

Please note: Any requests submitted after December 4th will be reviewed in Spring 2027 and, if approved, will be effective for Fall 2027.

For current UMD students interested in declaring an INFO College major as a primary or secondary major.*

You must complete the following change of major process:

STEP 1: TerpEngage Major Change Request

Submit the Change Major Request on TerpEngage [External Link].

STEP 2: Canvas Course

Receive an email inviting you to join the Major Change Canvas course. If you do not receive an email within 1 week of submitting your request, please contact us.

STEP 3: Form Completion

Upload your Registration Projection form to the Canvas course and wait for an advisor to return the completed form to you.

*Students wishing to earn a double major or  a double degree may need additional advising and coordination with the advising office of their other major prior to course registration.
